We are looking for experienced STAFF CHIEF ENGINEER for cruise vessel MITSUI OCEAN FUJI.

Embarkation ASAP

Contract 3 months on/off

Salary in USD/per month worked - to be advised upon interview


 

The Staff-Chief Engineer is the Chief Engineer’s deputy.  He is the daily Foreman of the plant and oversees the performance of routine and condition based maintenance and repairs.  Performs all other duties that the Chief Engineer directs.  Present in the Engine Room as necessary and during all maneuverings. Assigns and performs duties as necessary to ensure the Engine Room is a safe working environment and in operational readiness. The Staff Chief Engineer is on call 24 hours a day for emergencies or other than normal operating conditions. Always follows procedures, rules and regulations as defined in the SQM system.

 

  • Responsible for the Engineering Division in the Chief Engineer’s absence.
  • Duties and Responsibilities will automatically be transferred to the Staff-Chief Engineer in the event of the Chief Engineer becoming incapacitated e.g. due to illness.
  • Supervises and trains assistant and crew in operation, repair and maintenance of equipment; and of the use and interpretation of the SQM system.
  • Responsible for keeping the Chief Engineer updated regarding the material status of the vessel and assigned equipment.
  •  Maintain the ship in accordance with specifications set forth by the ACC rules and regulation and the LR classification.
  •  Plans and executes all preventative maintenance, voyage and emergency repairs to the vessel.
  •  Assists the Chief Engineer and Marine Superintendent with the preparation of shipyard job specifications.
  •  Maintain accurate maintenance records of ship machinery in digital format and follow necessary procedures to maintain or overhaul machinery.
  •  Reports directly to the Chief Engineer and keeps him informed regarding the material status of the engineering plant and Engineering personal.
  •  Assist the Chief Engineer with the department budget proposals.
  •  Update maintenance work (scheduled, unexpected, unplanned) into planned maintenance system.
  •  Overall responsible for the inventory control with assistance of Amos Controller.
  •  Responsible for communication with Supply Chain regarding AMOS Requisition Forms, Queries, Purchase Orders in his area with assistance of Amos Controller.
  •  Additional routines and work as assigned by supervisor

 

Duties Include:

  • Maintenance and control of the Water Mist, main Fire Line w/Hydrophore tank, Deck Sprinkler/Dredging System, main Fire Pumps and CO2 and foam systems.
  • Ensures that the gray water system is are properly operated and maintained.
  • Ensures that all potable water systems and associated equipment are properly operated and maintained.
  • Copies of reports to Environmental Officer on environmental non-conformities in Engine spaces shall be provided to and coordinated with the Chief Engineer and other appropriate Engine Department staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring all assigned subordinates are given necessary instruction for the proper performance of their duties.
  • Responsible for the preparation of all reports required in the performance of their duties.
  • Update Run Hour counters in AMOS.
  • Conduct Entrance, Mid-Term and Sign-Off Interviews.
  • Participate in the evaluation process and conduct Sign-Off Appraisals.
  • Participate in the ECR manning during St-By or Maneuverings.
  • Overview and participate in all Bunkering and transfer operations

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

 

  • Chief Engineer’s License.
  • Maintain current STCW certification.
  • Completed Advanced Fire-Fighting training.
  • General knowledge skills applicable to the various systems on board Company’s vessels.
  • Ability to interpret ship's plans and prints, draw engineering plans and prepare job orders. 
  • Good communication/social skills.
  • Ability to plan projects, assign priorities, resolve problems and to work with out supervision.
  • Ability to supervise others.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English at applicable business level.
  • Strong character
  • Solid professional ethics
  • Well-tempered and well mannered.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use to hands to touch, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Therefore, the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

•             While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

•             Extensive travel from ship to ship with varying accommodations and resting opportunities require good health. Active management of health through diet and exercise is a key for prolonged success in the position

•             All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.  The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
