We are currently recruiting for experienced HOTEL ENGINEER for cruise vessel SILVER WIND
Embarkation - December 2024
Contract 3 months on/off rotation.
Wages in USD/per month worked on board - to be advised upon interview
Required: solid experience on passenger ships, valid Certificates, good references/recommendations!
HOTEL Engineer in SILVERSEA is also responsible for AC systems!
Position Summary
1. Execution of repair and maintenance work in all areas carried out outside of the Engine Room. Responsible for effectively and efficiently overseeing maintenance of all hotel machinery, systems and equipment in accordance with Company Policies, any National or International standards and any other prescribed regulations. Supporting Engine operation when needed.
2. Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and departments.
Reporting Structure
1. Reporting to the Chief Engineer.
2. Functional reporting to Hotel Director for all technical Hotel Department matters.
3. Subordinates – AC Fitter, Plumber, Hotel Fitter and their assistants.
Responsibilities
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Maintenance, operation, repairs of plumbing and HVAC system outside Engine Room. Ensures sufficient stock of spare parts and consumables is on order and in the onboard system to cover planned and unplanned maintenance. Responsible to be familiar with the operation and location of all lifesaving, fire-fighting and pollution prevention equipment. Maintenance, operation, repair, supervision and ownership of Hotel systems (to include but not limited to the following): a. Galley and pantry equipment. b. Provision equipment. c. Laundry machinery and equipment (main laundry as well as Guest and Crew Laundries). d. Spa equipment (e.g. Sauna, Steam bath, beauty parlor etc.). e. Provision Compressor Units, cold room and refrigerator plant. f. Dining, Bar, Housekeeping pantry equipment. Support maintenance and repair with Safety Officer and Staff Engineer (to include but not limited to the following): a. Air Condition/distribution System; Ventilation System; pipes and associated equipment. b. Provision/Fridges/distribution System; Ventilation System; pipes and associated equipment. c. Hotel Galleys Machines/Equipment’s; pipes and associated equipment. d. Main Laundry and Launderette’s Machines/Equipment’s; pipes and associated equipment. e. Scanship System; Food waste System plant and associated equipment. f. Incinerator; associated machinery and equipment. g. Evac System; Black and Grey Water Distribution System, associated machinery and equipment. h. Shell Doors; associated machinery and equipment. i. Pools and Jacuzzis; associated machinery and equipment. j. Water System; Cold and Hot Water Distribution Pipes, Pumps, Chlorination associated machinery and equipment. k. Ship equipment; Machines are brought in engine work shop (with supervision of person in charge of equipment); all maintenance needs to be agreed with consent of Chief Engineer/Staff Engineer. Responsible for the AMOS, Stock/Parts, Work Orders reports, related of safe and efficient repair and maintenance of Machinery Under Responsibility (Job Description), associated machinery and equipment.
Participates in the development of on board operational plans in accordance with all technical, legislative, safety and procedural specifications, to support the successful completion of maintenance periods and works closely with the Hotel Department on all maintenance issues, ensuring a minimal impact on the shipboard operation.
8. 9. Reports completed maintenance to the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer for entry into the planned maintenance system. Delegates work to subordinates.
10. Keeps the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems, matters of significance, any issues that may compromise the ships safety and any deficiencies found in the machinery or equipment.
11. Conducts daily communication and strong cooperation with the Safety Officer and Hotel Director to review progress and agree with Chief Engineer on work prioritization.
12. Accountable for ensuring that Company, Public Health, National and International standards are maintained and meeting requirements. Reporting to the Chief Engineer any instances where the ship is unable or fails to comply.
13. Responsible for making entries and maintaining a correct and up to date Engine log book, technical or waste related logbooks, Ozone Depleting Substances.
14. Monitors subordinates working/rest hours and overtime. Maintaining 100% compliance with Company requirements as well as ILO/MLC.
15. Executes strict practices to ensure that the engine room is operated in accordance with the following regulations and Company policies, during all prevailing circumstances and conditions: a. International Safety Management Code. b. ISPS Code. c. SOLAS. d. Code of Safe Working Practices. e. MARPOL. f. Pollution prevention. g. STCW. h. Oil Record Book. i. ILO/IMO/ITF/MLC 2006. j. Ballast Water Management. k. US CDC Vessel Sanitation Program. l. Merchant Shipping Legislation of the Bahamas. 16. Leads, trains and develops subordinates ensuring effective reviews, feedback, coaching and performance management.
17. Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
18. Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department and other departments around the ship.
19. Oversight of maintenance (including cleaning and sanitation), periodical inspection and involvement in relevant infection prevention related risk analysis on the work of air/pressure managing systems and equipment affecting spread of air borne aerosols/vectors onboard.
20. All other duties as assigned.

1. Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
2. Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.

Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly. Delivering training, guidance and supervision on how to use and maintain them where necessary.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
1. Valid STCW certification.
2. Valid CoC A-III/2.
3. Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
4. Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships as Hotel Engineer or in a similar role and preferable experience with Wartsila engines.
5. Physically and medically fit.
6. Moral integrity is required.
7. Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
8. Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
9. Alaska experience is a plus.
10. It is recommended to have Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.
Language requirements:
1. Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board Silversea vessels. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.
Computer knowledge:
1. Good working knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft applications.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in all areas of the vessel with noise, light traffic and distracting environments.
