We are looking for experienced CHIEF ENGINEER for cruise vessel MITSUI OCEAN FUJI ready to join the vessel ASAP - ( this is ex SEABOURN ODYSSEY )
Contract 3 months on/off
Salary in USD/per month worked - will be advised upon interview.
The Chief Engineer is the Senior Engineering Officer and the Master’s principal assistant in all matters pertaining to technical engineering. He is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessels main engines, electrical generating equipment, and all other various mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic equipment, and hotel services which are a part of the ships system. Present in the engine room as necessary and during all maneuverings.
§ Oversees the operation, maintenance and repairs of the vessel
§ Assigns and performs duties as necessary to ensure the Engine Room is a safe working environment and in operational readiness.
§ Chief Engineer is on call twenty-four (24) hours a day for emergencies or other than normal operating conditions.
§ Always follows RCI's procedures, rules and regulations as defined in the SQM system.
§ Chief Engineer approves and conducts Continuous Machinery Surveys (CMS).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete charge of the engineering department subject only to the orders of the Master and the technical direction and supervision of the Superintendent engineer.
- Reports directly to the Master. Keeps the Master and Ship Manager informed regarding the material status of the engineering plant.
- Ensures maximum utilization of ship's resources, by being in charge of all Request for Repairs (RFRs) generated by the ship's departments. The Chief Engineer will evaluate the request and, if it cannot be addressed or handled by the onboard personnel, will the coordinate the resolution of such issues with the appropriate Ship Manager. This is to include all vessel equipment from all ship departments.
- Regular maintenance of machinery as to maintain a high level of readiness and performance.
- Maintain vessel in accordance to specifications set forth by the RCI rules and regulation and the LR classification.
- Plan and execute all preventative maintenance, voyage and emergency repairs to the vessel.
- Supervises and trains assistant and crew in operation, repair and maintenance of equipment; and on the use and interpretation of the SQM system.
- The Chief Engineer Officer of every ship is bound, in consultation with the Staff-Chief Engineer, to ensure that watch-keeping arrangements are adequate to maintain a safe watch.
- Provide a noon report to the Master, upon departure, stating the fuel, water, lube oil, and potable water consumed during the previous 24 hour period and total, currently in hand. When the vessel is at sea, the noon report must also include the remaining fuel onboard (ROB).
- In consultation with the Master, provide recommended fuel and lube oil requirements and desired fueling schedules.
- Post and follow the fuel transfer instructions when transferring fuel to or from the vessel. Comply with all local laws and regulations when transferring fuel.
- Serve as damage control officer of the ship.
- Provide the Ship Manager with annual and long-range budgetary estimates on keeping the ship's hull and machinery in first class condition and to meet all regulatory requirements. These budgets are for inclusion in the annual operating budget and reports required by the LR.
- Recommend necessary dockside and dry-dock repairs, modifications, and alterations to the Ship Manager.
- Assist the Ship Manager with the preparation of dry-dock job specifications and assist the Ship Manager with special projects as directed.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records of ships machinery in digital format and follow necessary procedures to maintain or overhaul machinery.
- Recommend rotation schedules for engineering personnel, in conjunction with the Ship Manager and Schedulers.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of spare parts and supplies in order to have required spares on board to support the ship.
- Coordinates with the Ship Manager and other shore support staff in order to obtain parts, services and equipment necessary for the execution of assigned duties.
- Supervises all engineering department personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
§ Chief Engineer’s License.
§ Maintain current STCW certification.
§ Completed Advanced Fire-Fighting training.
§ Previous experience as Staff Engineer on Company vessels.
§ General knowledge skills applicable to the various systems on board Company’s vessels.
§ Ability to interpret ship's plans and prints, draw engineering plans and prepare job orders.
§ Good communication/social skills.
§ Ability to plan projects, assign priorities, resolve problems and to work without supervision.
§ Ability to supervise others.

• While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Extensive travel from ship to ship with varying accommodations and resting opportunities require good health. Active management of health through diet and exercise is a key for prolonged success in the position
• All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
