Position Summary


This person is expected to support the medical team with assessment and treatment of crewmembers
as per the Doctors’ request and mitigation and prevention of injuries in support to our Safety Officer,
Safety team and Staff Captain.


To consistently exceed crew expectations and provide the highest levels of product and services,
additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed in coordination with the shoreside
Medical Operations and Risk Management.


Required Documents upon Boarding


Physiotherapist must bring the following documents or their photocopies with them when they arrive to
the ship: Physiotherapist Diploma and professional license certificates that are valid for the entire
lengths of their contract. It is the responsibility of the Physiotherapist to take the courses and tests that
are necessary to keep these licenses valid along with any necessary post graduate credits.

Qualifications


• Previous working experience as a Physiotherapist for 3 years.
• MA degree in Physiotherapy or similar relevant field
• Outstanding patient management skills
• Compassionate and friendly personality
• Critical thinker and problem solver
• Intermediate to Advanced verbal and written level of English is required.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

Education


· Diploma /degree from an accredited Physiotherapist school or university.
· Valid Physiotherapist license from country or state/province of origin is required.


Responsibilities


· The Physiotherapist shall understand the Safety and Quality Management System (SQM) and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.

· Provide administrative assistance to onboard team including completion of medical forms/reports.

· Ensure confidentiality of medical information.

· Generally, it is the responsibility of the physiotherapist to become fully versed with the policies and procedures of the ship.

. Provide regular Ergonomics Awareness Training (SQM 8.26) to crew in critical departments: Food Service, Food Preparation, Housekeeping, Entertainment. This training should include proper lifting, materials handling, and stretching techniques.

. Provide one on one or small group training to new / joining crew in critical departments: Food Service, Food Preparation, Housekeeping, Entertainment.

. Coordinate/oversee pre-shift stretching exercises in critical departments: Food Service, Food Preparation, Housekeeping, Entertainment.

. Regularly observe operations in key departments and note potentially dangerous work activities including erroneous lifting, pushing, or pulling techniques that could result in injury. Provide real time feedback and training to the crew members performing these activities.

. Monitor on-board muscle-skeletal injuries and focus attention (oversight and training) on departments and work functions with heightened injury statistics.

. Monitor on-board Tele-PT program and patient progress. Follow-up with crew members who are non-compliant with Tele-PT program

· The Physiotherapist must participate in all lifeboat and emergency drills held on board unless excused by the Staff Captain and in accordance to her/his emergency duties.

· The Physiotherapist must also assist in maintaining a proper inventory level of pharmaceutical and medical supplies needed for the proper performance of her/his duties.

· Maintain current medical records in SeaCare for all crew members that have benefited from physiotherapy assessment and/or treatment.

· Organize the daily schedule in conjunction with the Sr Doctor including but not limited to appointments for patients, training, safety meetings, shipboard injury mitigation and prevention programs, reporting to shoreside and shipboard team, etc. Each Physiotherapist will serve at scheduled times each day.


· Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.


Dimensions

The Physiotherapist always needs to be available in order to assist the Medical and Safety team with any medical cases and injury prevention matters.

· The Physiotherapist should carry a handphone ready to respond to emergencies.

· The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines.
